Puzzle System with Pits

Integrated with pit and ground solutions

In a pit system, the ground level aligns with the driving aisle where vehicles enter and exit. When a pit-level car is requested, a ground-level platform first slides sideways to create an opening. Then, the pit platform rises up to the ground level, allowing the vehicle to be retrieved. The same sequence applies for upper levels — platforms shift to make space, and the requested car is delivered smoothly to ground level.

When building height is limited but underground space is possible, a pit system is the ideal solution. These are puzzle-style parking systems that include one level below ground and at least one above ground. From there, we can expand upward — up to four levels above ground — giving you a total of five usable parking levels (1 in the pit, 1 at ground, and 3–4 more stacked above).

Key Advantages

  • Maximize footprint: Adds parking density when above-ground height is restricted.

  • Flexible widths: Built from 1 space wide up to 9 spaces wide per group.

  • Pit depth: Typically 8 feet deep, sized to comfortably fit SUVs and sedans.

  • Vehicle accommodation:

    • Pit level: SUVs and cars

    • Ground level: SUVs and sedans

    • Upper levels: Standard sedans (up to 3 or 4 levels high)

  • Capacity: Each platform supports 5,200 lbs.

  • Speed: Retrieval time under 45 seconds.

Where They Fit Best

Pit systems are most often used in urban multifamily, mixed-use, or commercial properties where every square foot counts. By taking advantage of below-ground space, developers can achieve maximum density without adding height to the building envelope.

Customizable Options

  • Widths: 1 to 9 spaces per row

  • Height configurations: -1 +1, -1 +2, -1 +3, or even -1 +4

  • Integration with Trivial’s RAUL™ remote access and monitoring for reliability

  • Coatings: powder-coated or hot-dip galvanized steel

The animation demonstrates how a pit parking system works. First, the ground platform moves aside to make space. Then the pit platform rises to ground level. Once the pit has settled, the upper platform comes down to the ground. Finally, when the upper returns to its place, the ground platform slides back in. This sequence shows the controlled, safe way each platform operates in turn.
